Revolutionizing Diagnosis for Hereditary Neuromuscular Diseases

The CoMPaSS-NMD project is making headlines for its innovative approach to transforming the landscape of rare disease diagnosis. By integrating genomics, structured clinical data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the project aims to provide a unified pathway that reduces waiting times and eliminates the “diagnostic odyssey” many patients face.

Key Project Goals:

  • Precision Diagnosis: Utilizing Machine Learning (ML) to successfully classify patients with Hereditary Neuromuscular Diseases (HNMDs).

  • European-Wide Equality: Ensuring patients across Europe receive the same high level of diagnostic quality and accurate investigation.

  • Sustainability: Reducing long-term healthcare costs by minimizing misdiagnosis and ineffective treatments.

The project, led by UNIMORE, serves as a model for ethical and trustworthy AI in healthcare, aligning with EU regulations like the AI Act and GDPR.

“CoMPaSS-NMD will provide tools that clinicians can use immediately… to support differential diagnosis and digital workflows,” says Prof. Rossella Tupler.
